AVT50 MODS
This great-sounding Marshall AVT50 has had 25% foot-switched tube-boost, two 6-position rotary mid-frequency shift switches (1 per channel), a second speaker output jack, and a clean channel mid-range control added. The speaker has been upgraded (the inadequate stock speaker overheated and self-destructed). With the tube boost on, the tube gets driven well into saturation, creating plenty of warm tube tone. The mid-shift switch allow the tone to be tailored. An impressive sounding amp.

1954 Fender Tweed Pro

This vintage 1954 Fender Tweed Pro-Amp with a 15" Jensen alnico 5 speaker came in sounding muffled and flabby. It was OK at low volumes, but turned to mush as soon you turned it up. Now it has had active tube-gain control, and a 5-position rotary high-pass selector switch added. The switch was mounted in one of the instrument jack positions (jack removed). The active gain control is in the microphone volume slot. No longer is this amp strictly a one trick pony. By adjusting gain, volume, and high-pass frequency, this amp can be effectively dialed in to a broad variety of ear-pleasing tones.

Yorkville Sound Super Stage 100g
This Yorkville Sound Super Stage 100G includes clean-up of the clean channel (no more fuzz, and much more brightness available; the treble control now has treble!), addition of clean channel midrange control (rear panel), multiple distortion tones (6-position rotary switch, rear panel), 2 high-frequency voicings on distorted channel (front panel switch between treble and volume controls), addition of 2 speaker output jacks (rear panel), relocated reverb tank, and reverb tank transducer shielding. 400% better!

Boss MT-2 Metal Zone

Boss MT-2 Metal Zone 'GERM WARFARE' mod. This pedal has been upgraded with germanium semiconductors, and the pedal's tonal network has also been modified to smooth and richen the tone. Lots of usable tones for rock and metal. Excellent modern rock and heavy metal tones from this one.

DOD FX60 Chorus

DOD FX60 Stereo Chorus - A decent sounding analog bucket-brigade type chorus pedal, with a delay time modification. Plenty of modulation depth and speed. The delay time control fit in nicely in the space between the Speed and Depth knobs. With the delay time mod, this chorus can go from mellow to radical. A cool analog chorus pedal.

ToneWerkz 'Supercry' Mods for Crybaby Wah Pedals

ToneWerkz 'Supercry' mods for Dunlop GCB-95, VOX V847, Thomas Organ Company, Jen, and other wah pedals (please inquire). Mods include true-bypass, vocal control (Q), center frequency shift, soft-wah control, and internal gain controls. The vocal control allows the band-pass frequency width to be adjusted, setting how resonant or 'vocal' the wah sounds. The shift control allows instant customization of the filter's frequency range. The Soft-Wah switch clicks from suttle to intense wah. The gain trim control inside this pedal allows the wah volume level to be fine tuned. No longer is this pedal a one trick pony!

These Boss CH-1 Super Chorus pedals are known for sounding very good, but somewhat sterile. Almost digital sounding. The depth modification adds life. The pedal sounds stock until the depth is turned up past the mid position; after that it comes to analog life. No longer sterile, it swooshes like an analog chorus should. Very sweet. A must-have mod for the Boss CH-1. Another mod done to this one was a change in speed range, so the chorus can be slowed way down, making this pedal double as a really cool sounding phaser as well.

Boss DS-1 Distortion

The ToneWerkz 'Ultimate Rock' Boss DS-1 Distortion mods have truly nailed down the ultimate in rock tone from this pedal. The tone is well balanced, and clipping (distortion) in this pedal has been modified with germanium and LED semiconductors, so that this pedal cleans up nicely as a guitar's volume control is turned down, similarly to the way a tube amp does; one half of the signal cleans up more than the other (asymetrically). Mids and presence have been increased. Buzzy high-end has been eliminated. The tone control has been reworked, so tone is neutral at 50%, and usable highs are increased as the tone is rolled up, without eliminating bottom end like the stock pedal does. As a bonus, a trim pot has been added inside the pedal, so that over-all gain can be increased if desired. From clean and woody to flat out high gain, this modified pedal delivers smooth and well defined rock rhythms and leads that will make you smile.

The Morley ABY selector/combiner switching/routing pedal allows one input signal to be routed to two amps (two input signals to one amp is also possible), choosing 'A or B' or 'A and B' as outputs. It is a true bypass pedal. This one has been modified to eliminate signal loss (also known as 'tone sucking') due to the pedal's shunting resistors. Now it is essentially transparent.

DOD FX75 Stereo Flanger Modifications

The DOD FX75 bucket-brigade type stereo analog flanger pedal from the eighty's doesn't flange well at all in it's stock form. After a few simple modifications and an adjustment to it's internal trim controls, it flanges really really well, kind of similar to an old MXR flanger. With a little delay after it, and two distortion pedals hissing into it, plus a little guitar noise, we made it sound so much like like a jet aircraft breaking the sound barrier overhead that we were astounded! A real keeper.

Ibanez EM5 ECHOMACHINE, SOUNDTANK SERIES

This Ibanez EM5 Echomachine digital delay from the 1980's Ibanez Soundtank series is a pleasant and warm-sounding surprise, designed with a distortion section to simulate vintage tape-based echos. A cool effect in a very cheap enclosure, unfortunately, prone to failure due to it's cheap components. The switch needed cleaning before the old pedal would work, and the pots needed cleaning. The output level was too low, so that required a modification to increase the echo level. This pedal is very cool as it is, but is scheduled to be put into a larger metal enclosure, with true bypass, and added features. Much more to come on this one...

Boss OS-2 Mods

This Boss OS-2 Overdrive/Distortion pedal has had the clipping diodes changed to a combination of germanium, LEDs, and silicon to smoothen out tone and make the response more tube-like, the distortion circuit mids have been increased (they were very scooped), the overdrive level has been increased (making it louder and more articulate), the tone control has been fine-tuned, and the red indicator LED has been replaced with a blue one (purely for looks). The tone is more full (less scooped), making it sound more 'real' than before. It is capable of driving a tube amp's front-end nicely, without getting mushy. Satisfying, with creamy sounding lows, and sustaining leads (set as in photo).

BOSS SD-1 'TUBE EDGE' PEDAL MODS

This Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive has been re-voiced similarly to a tubescreamer, pure overdrive; however, a suttle harmonic 'woman tone' can be added to the mix with a flick of a switch, gently taking the clean edge off of the overdrive. This pedal is going to get a lot of use.

Q-Tron Plus Pedal Mods

This Electro Harmonix Q-Tron Plus has had it's LED re-wired so that the LED comes on when you hit the switch to engage the effect, instead of staying on all of the time. Why Electro Harmonix did this??? Who knows. The pedal has also been rewired for true bypass switching, to eliminate signal loss due to loading during bypass. Lastly, the pedal's soldering was inspected, and a little re-soldering was done. Now this excellent envelope controlled filter can be considered gig-worthy.

Traynor YCV Amp Reverb Mod

This Traynor YCV40 has it's reverb dramatically improved, with greatly increased high-frequency splash and sparkle. Everybody that complains that YCV amps don't compare to Fender amps because of their reverb, guess again. This one does. A night and day comparison. At 4 on the dial, it surpasses anything the reverb could do before! Wow! Talk about increased dynamics! This mod should be done to everybody's YCV amp! It even has a switch added to the top panel, so that one can choose between the stock and modded reverb sounds! This is a featured mod. Please inquire.

[note: A variation of this mod can be done to just about any amp with a spring reverb! Dramatic results!]

Morley Black Gold Wah Mods

This Morley Black Gold Basic Wah, model BWA was voiced wrong, making it sound more like a mwee pedal than a wah pedal. Now it has been revoiced for more realistic wah tonality, similar to a Crybaby wah pedal, and has had a low frequency control knob added, so you can adjust how low the frequency goes when the pedal is rocked back, effectively altering the taper of the wah sound. A unique and original modification.

Music Man HD One Fifty LED DRIVE Mod

This Music Man 410-HD One fifty amplifier has the all-original LED DRIVE modification done to it's built-in overdrive circuit. The modification, which in this case was done only to channel 2, involved replacing the stock 1N914 clipping diodes in the channel 2 overdrive circuit with select LED's, and mounting a control pot for the modification into channel one's input jack 2. With the LED DRIVE set at 0, the result is a pure square wave (with pre volume at max), just like stock. Turn the dial to the right, and the distorted signal becomes progressively rounded, introducing even harmonics from the LEDs, and notching the signal (as observed on an oscilloscope). Everything from pure Music Man clean to rhythmically and harmonically brown sound. This mod can be applied to several different Music Man amps that have the same preamp circuit as the HD-150. A cool and original mod for Music Man amps.

Marshall JTM45 with Blues Breaker mods

JTM45 with Blues Breaker Mods - Rear View

Marshall JTM45 with Blues Breaker mods , which included replacing the stock 8551 power tubes with KT66, lowering filter cap values, and making component changes to the pre-amp circuitry. Here is what the owner of the amp has to say:

I find that the amp sounds thicker, quite a bit thicker. I used to have a very cutting sound with the bridge pickup of my LP, now I find that the bridge sounds almost like how the neck pickup used to sound and the neck pickup gives me a very rich and creamy overdrive. I used to run the amp with the treble rolled back quite a bit, but find I need to dial in a bit more now to compensate. Now, I do all my playing at home through an attenuator, so I haven’t had a chance to really open the amp up wide yet, but I can say this much, it’s definitely not as fizzy sounding with the volume cranked through the attenuator as it used to be. I don’t know if that has more to do with the component changes or the tube change, but it’s a good thing for sure.

update: Fantastic, I’m really liking the tone. It’s thick and warm and awesome.

Boss CE-5 Chorus Ensemble with àdded depth`mod

This Boss CE-5 Chorus Ensemble pedals has had the ToneWerkz `Ultimate Chorus` Added Depth mod. The pedal sounds stock until the depth is turned up past the mid position; after that it comes to analog life. No longer sterile, it swooshes like an analog chorus should. Much sweeter. A must-have mod for the Boss CE-5.
